PTO Meeting Minutes for September


PTO Summary

September 8, 2020 - Virtual meeting à 11 attendees

  • Principal Report
    • District update
      • District has run out of COVID Cares money
        • Spent on PPE, technology, PSDV, etc.
        • PSDV is twice as large as district predicted (~3000 students)
    • Linton update
      • Linton had a reduction in students this year
        • Usual attrition; 30 students moved out of PSD
        • 50 students enrolled in PSDV
        • Small class of kindergarten (and those deciding to red-shirt)
          • K -1 have only 2 sections each
      • Teachers still have classroom needs; just may look different than usual
      • Field trips and assemblies are doubtful for this year
      • Ecoweek was moved to spring in hopes of not being canceled

  • Treasurer Report
    • PTO had $6700 originally set aside for teachers
    • Discussed rolling some other budget line items into teacher budget
      • Emergency vote 11-0 to dedicate ~ $13,000 to teacher needs
    • Read-a-thon fundraiser income may be reduced or eliminated this year
      • PTO will keep some money in reserves for now (in case there is no fundraising income this year)
    • PTO Chair (Mandy Fogo) will work on amending the PTO By Laws to reflect emergency situations (e.g. pandemic)
  • Additional questions/comments
    • Volunteering
      • District not allowing volunteers at this time
        • Kristin will ask assistant superintendent about possible ways to volunteer (e.g. virtually with a background check)
    • Online class experiences
      • Impressed with the teachers this fall
      • Some problems with Microsoft Teams and Chromebooks not working well together.
        • This seems to be a problem with school and personal Chromebooks
        • Let your teacher know and contact IT for questions/support
    • Original Works
      • Mr. Hobson will not be doing Original Works this year
      • Families can long onto the Original Works website to submit their own art and make purchases.
        • Kristin will check with Mr. Hobson about the possibility of “how to” videos or information so students can make similar artwork to what they would in class.
    • PSD calendar
      • Make sure to check the calendar, as it has changed this summer
    • Lunch
      • School lunches are free right now to any person under 18
      • Linton was serving about 45 lunches per day but anticipates a larger number now that all are free.
      • This is helping keep bus drivers and food service workers employed.
