Art Class with Ms. Mattice:

In art class, all students always receive at least three minutes to freely create from their own hearts. 2nd-5th graders also vote and write in ideas for what they want to learn how to draw and make throughout the school year. Kindergarteners and 1st graders begin the school year making art about the alphabet, and then propose ideas for what they want to learn how to make during the second semester. All classes also experience “choice day” or TAB (Teaching artistic behaviors) weekly, meaning they can choose which artworks they want to work on and the materials that they’ll use to reach those personal goals. If you’re wondering where all these awesome artworks are, they live at Linton throughout the school year so we can decorate our building and community with their masterpieces, and in the classrooms so students can persevere and push their works to their full potential. (Students will bring all artworks home at the end of the school year.) We pursue these goals while also studying the Colorado Department of Education Visual Arts Standards, and their challenges that increase throughout elementary school.
