Music

Welcome to the Linton music program! At Linton Elementary, we believe music is for everyone. In the music room, Kindergarten through Fifth Grade students have the opportunity to explore, create, perform, and enjoy music in a supportive environment. During the school year, students participate in a variety of hands-on activities that help them discover their musical interests and build confidence as young musicians.
In the Linton music program, students explore topics such as singing, melodic and rhythmic elements, basic instrumental skills, music composition, performance, and more! Our music lessons are sequential in nature, so as students progress through each grade level, they build on each musical skill while exploring diverse musical styles, cultures, instruments, and traditions. Students also have opportunities to create and perform music individually and as a group, developing teamwork, creativity, focus, and self-expression.
Our music program incorporates movement, games, instruments, singing, and other engaging activities to help students make meaningful and relevant connections to music and to their daily lives. We celebrate music throughout the school year with grade-level performances in first grade, third grade, and fifth grade, allowing students to share what they have learned with their peers, teachers, and families. Third through Fifth grade students are also invited to join the Linton Choir, which meets on Thursday mornings throughout the school year and presents a final Spring Showcase. More information about the Linton Choir can be found under the “Activities & Clubs” tab on the Linton website.
At Linton, our music lessons are aligned with the Colorado Academic Standards for Elementary Music and follow a scope and sequence outlined by the Kodaly approach to music education. One of our biggest goals in the music room is to encourage students to explore music through an array of activities to grow music appreciation, build music literacy, and provide an outlet for creative expression. It’s going to be another wonderful year in the Linton music room!
