Math Olympiad at Linton is a very fun program that teaches kids to solve problems effectively!   Students of all math abilities with a positive attitude and willingness to work, participate, and learn will benefit from participation.   Students frequently do better in their other classes (not just math!) by applying what they learn in Math Olympiad.

A voluntary enrichment program (nationally coordinated)

An extra challenge in basic math skills

An opportunity to learn creative problem-solving approaches

Who can participate in Math Olympiad?

Any 4th or 5th grade student

3rd grade students with teacher recommendation

NOTE: Students must be interested in math and be willing to actively participate

How does it work?

Meet weekly (Wednesday afternoons from 3:00-3:45 in Mrs. Leerssen's 4th grade room)

Timed Tests monthly from November through March (each test is approximately 25 minutes long)

Practice tests and discussions on the non-test weeks

Parents are encouraged and welcome to help coach:

Parent coaches make small group learning possible!

Students with involved parents get more out of Math Olympiad

BONUS! Parent coaches often find that their own math and problem solving abilities improve!

Medals for top scorers and for special accoumplishments

Math Olympiad Awards

Medallion for perfect score on all 5 tests (very rare!)

Trophy for Top score at school

Pins for top 10% (silver) and top 2% (gold) national ranking

Math Olympiad Patch for students in top half of national ranking
